There is one word that I can use to describe 2018 – hectic!
This year my husband Will and I decided to up and move from little ol Adelaide to the big smoke of Melbourne. We moved because Will won a position with the NGO, World Vision. Along with photography, I am also a high school teacher. We plunged into the unknown – not knowing where we would live, where I would work, if I could get clients from Melbourne to photograph, and if we would find friends.
There were times this year where I felt like the loneliness would never end. I thought that I would not be able to continue my photography business over in Melbourne and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to find another job as a teacher. All of these things came to pass and as I look back, I’m filled with gratitude for the people who we did not know a year ago, and yet who welcomed us strangers from South Australia into their friendship circle, for the people who took a chance on me as a teacher, and for the people – you, who have been brave and bold and stepped in front of my camera, whether it be in Melbourne, or back in Adelaide. Thank you for showing me who you are as couples, families and friends.
Now that we are in 2019, I can say that I am thankful for 2018 and all that it brought. Amidst the challenges, the loneliness and the heartache, there was joy, laughter and love. I know I say this all the time, but it really is a privilege to capture the love, joy, tears and laughter of families and weddings. It’s one of my favourite things.
So here’s to you! Thank you for coming with my on this journey that is Elise Mezner Photography. I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite images from 2018. Looking forward to capturing more laughs, tears, joy and love in 2019. Happy New Year!
